Pokemon SV: Shiny Wo-Chien Raid Guide & Best Teams

Shiny Wo-Chien Tera Raid

Introduction

This guide covers the special “Shiny Ruinous Pokemon” Tera Raid Battle event currently running in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

This event marks the first opportunity to obtain Shiny Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu, and Chi-Yu, which were previously unavailable. Unlike regular raids, these Pokemon require 1 million global victories to be distributed via Mystery Gift, making this a unique community challenge.

Additionally, raids offer excellent rewards including Herba Mystica and Tera Shards, making farming highly worthwhile.

Event Overview and How to Participate

Event Schedule

  • Wo-Chien Raid: July 23, 2025 9:00 AM – August 4, 2025 8:59 AM
  • Chien-Pao Raid: August 4, 2025 9:00 AM – August 18, 2025 8:59 AM
  • Ting-Lu Raid: August 18, 2025 9:00 AM – September 1, 2025 8:59 AM
  • Chi-Yu Raid: September 1, 2025 9:00 AM – September 15, 2025 8:59 AM

During these periods, Mass Outbreaks of Grass, Ice, Ground, and Fire-type Pokemon occur with increased shiny rates.

How to Obtain Shiny Pokemon

Shiny Ruinous Pokemon cannot be caught directly from raids. During each Pokemon’s event period, global players must achieve 1 million combined victories to unlock distribution.

Once achieved, the shiny Pokemon will be distributed via Mystery Gift at a later date. While unconfirmed, you likely can receive the gift even without participating, though we recommend joining at least once to be safe.

Additional Rewards
After reaching 1 million victories, every additional 100,000 victories unlocks a 40-piece Tera Shard set, up to 10 sets (400 total).
Shiny Wo-Chien distribution is scheduled for August 8, 2025 9:00 AM – October 1, 2025 8:59 AM.

How to Join Raids

To participate in event raids, you must complete the main story (finish “The Way Home”). Once connected to the internet, event raid crystals appear on the map, marked by white glowing Grass Tera-type icons.

Players who haven’t completed the story can still join by participating in other players’ raid invitations.

Wo-Chien Raid Details and Strategy

Wo-Chien

Wo-Chien’s Stats and Behavior

  • Raid Level: 5-Star
  • Wo-Chien’s Level: 75
  • Tera Type: Grass (Weak to: Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug)
  • Ability: “Tablets of Ruin” – Reduces Attack of all other Pokemon by 25%, increasing physical bulk

Move Set

  • Giga Drain (Grass Special)
  • Dark Pulse (Dark Special)
  • Snarl (Dark Special) – Guaranteed Special Attack reduction
  • Pollen Puff (Bug Special)

Special Actions and Timing

  • Opening Move: Uses “Ruination” on one random Pokemon, cutting HP by half
  • Shield Activation: At ~80% time remaining or ~80% HP. Damage is heavily reduced without Terastallization
  • Player Buff Clear: At ~80% time and ~60% HP, removes all player stat boosts
  • Leaf Storm: Around 65% time remaining, targets one random Pokemon
  • Wo-Chien Debuff Clear: At ~60% time and ~40% HP, removes its own stat reductions

Raid Rewards

Shiny Wo-Chien raids drop: EXP Candy L/XL, Zinc, various Tera Shards (especially Grass), Rare Candy, Bottle Cap, Ability Capsule, Ability Patch, Calm Mint, PP Up, Star Piece, and various Herba Mystica (Bitter, Salty, Spicy, Sour).

Herba Mystica has a 3% drop rate and often drops in pairs. Ability Patches also drop frequently, making this excellent for farming.

Efficiency Tip
Using a sandwich with Raid Power: Grass increases reward quantities for more efficient farming.

Best Pokemon for Stable Clears

Wo-Chien is a 5-star raid, relatively easier than 7-star raids. However, special actions like Ruination and stat resets require attention. Here are 7 recommended Pokemon for stable solo clears.

General Strategy Tips

  • Use Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, or Bug-type moves to exploit weaknesses
  • Due to “Tablets of Ruin,” special attackers are preferred over physical
  • With multiple buff clears, rely on Metronome or strategies independent of stat changes
  • Avoid NPCs with Arboliva, as it powers up Wo-Chien’s Grass moves
  • If hit by opening Ruination, consider restarting for smoother runs

    • This strategy causes Charizard to faint from recoil damage, but is currently the fastest method to defeat Wo-Chien

Summary and Goals

To receive shiny Ruinous Pokemon via Mystery Gift, trainers worldwide must work together to achieve 1 million victories for each raid.

Actively farming raids during the event not only contributes to the shiny Pokemon goal but also allows efficient collection of valuable items like Herba Mystica and Tera Shards.

Collected Herba Mystica can be used during the concurrent Grass-type Mass Outbreak events for shiny hunting.

Don’t miss this special summer event – join the raids and add these rare shiny Ruinous Pokemon to your collection!
